Read Any Good Books Lately?
A fantasy fan’s favorites.
Well, I’m glad you asked!
First of all, I am a huge fantasy and romance reader. What about you guys? What are your favorite genres? Any book with lore, tragedy, and some good romance can capture my heart!
Recently, I’ve been reading The Grandest Game, which came out last month. It’s the first in its series, following the events of Jennifer Barnes’ other series, The Inheritance Games.
This book is a thrilling mystery with mind-boggling games and a side of fiery romance. I recommend it to anyone looking for romance with a bit more brain-teasing! It follows our three main characters: Lyra, Rohan, and Gigi. These three characters play to win the Grandest Game, a tournament held by Avery Kylie Grambs, the Hawthorne heiress and billionaire. Each contestant enters for their own reasons, but very soon they realize this is not just a game. Action-packed and filled with exciting story lines!
Over the summer, I also finally got around to read Six of Crows, which is Fantasy YA literature by Leigh Bardugo. It quickly became one of my favorite series, all about an impossible heist, six cunning criminals, and enough world building to last you a lifetime! I love the character development, how well done the whole plot is, and the hints of romance Bardugo throws at us. I’d recommend this book to anyone who can read, but you’ll probably enjoy it more if you are a fantasy fan!
For anyone who’s not the biggest fantasy fan, this next section is for you.
If you’re looking for a good book to transition you into many of the popular high fantasy or epic fantasy books, I recommend Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi, a YA dystopian romance following Julliette Ferrars, a girl whose touch can kill. The series follows her as she finds herself again, accepts herself, and makes sure the world will never forget her. Though this book is definitely a dystopian romance book, many of the themes and plot style are very similar to that of a fantasy book.
Fantasy isn’t everyone’s thing, but these are some things that I love about this genre, and might help you get a better sense of fantasy! Diving into fantasy worlds is always super special, finding yourself in another world through someone else’s eyes. There are a thousand worlds you can see and a thousand eyes you can see them through as a reader, and fantasy novels show you the most abstract of worlds. The characters are also one of the best parts in a fantasy novel, as you see them solve their problems, make their own paths, and change others’ lives, I always find it inspiring.
I hope you find something in here that sparks your interest or a book that might just suit your taste!
